This is becoming a yearly thing: USC is picked to go to the National Championship in the preseason, they get upset once, they go to the Rose Bowl, and they absolutely dominate led by an outstanding performance by their standout player from the regular season.
Yet again, this unexpected event occurred. (Catch the hint of sarcasm there?)
Let’s flash back to last season: preseason ranking was #1. In Week 5, Stanford upset them. Just routine, right? However, then, in Week 9, they were upset again, this time by Oregon and Dennis Dixon. Still, 2 conference losses couldn’t keep them down, as they stilled played in the Rose Bowl game against Illinois. In the NBA, it’s the Suns who make big moves.
In the NFL, it’s an assortment of teams who make big moves.
And, as we all know, in the MLB, it’s the Yankees who make big move.
And boy, have they made big moves in Free Agency Season 2008-2009. We all know about their predicament on the pitchers’ mound, but they’re ready to change that.
Just a few days after Baseball’s Winter Meetings, the Yankees have already made deals with big name pitchers C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett. The deal with Sabathia is worth $161 million dollars over 7 years, and the deal with Burnett is worth $82.5 million over 5 years. Continue reading →
